Brief History of The Nissan GT-R

The Nissan Skyline GT-R first hit the scene in 1968 as Nissan’s new built-for-performance touring car. The Skyline GT-R was meant to compete with factory racing cars produced by “the big 3” automakers in the U.S. The GT-R did just that and had 52 Japanese touring-car racing wins by 1972.

In 1973, GT-R sales suffered due to the worldwide oil crisis and Nissan discontinued the GT-R that year after a full redesign of the coupe. Nissan resurrected the GT-R in 1989 as an all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine performance coupe. The all-new GT-R went zero to 60 in under six seconds and put out 276 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.

The 1989 GT-R once again took the Japanese racing world by storm, with 29 consecutive victories. This earned the GT-R the nickname, “Godzilla.”

It wasn’t until 2008 that the GT-R hit the roads of the U.S. Nissan dropped Skyline from its name, and this new model held a twin-turbo V6, putting out 473 horsepower and giving other muscle cars a run for their money. With its unmatched handling, ability to grab the road, and exhilarating ride, the sleek GT-R has truly become a legendary performance vehicle.

The 2024 Nissan GT-R: The Car That Keeps Improving

The GT-R has proved one thing over the years: It only continues to improve. For 2024, Nissan has revised the GT-R’s dynamics in addition to other small improvements, while remaining true to its legendary, solid design.

Exterior:

The Nissan GT-R is known for its innovative, aerodynamic design which has been finely tuned for 2024. The all-new, updated model includes a redesigned front fascia, a new front lip spoiler, and new canards, all coming together to add to the GT-R’s aggressive stance. On the rear, you’ll notice a new spoiler designed to increase downforce and reimagined rear bumpers to decrease drag, once again improving the aerodynamics of the GT-R.

The GT-R T-Spec model is back in 2024 with a bold, standout design. It comes with special badging and outstanding 2-inch forged lightweight wheels. The T-Spec model also includes two exclusive exterior colors: Midnight Purple and Millennium Jade.

On the track-focused GT-R NISMO is easily identifiable by its gold NISMO forged wheels, equipped with Nissan carbon ceramic brakes. The NISMO model is designed for line-tracking performance and sports a 600-horsepower engine that works together with the coupe’s front and rear limited slip for ultimate control on the road.

Interior:

The 2024 Nissan GT-R is just as stacked with style on the inside as it is on the outside. You’ll enjoy sleek leather appointments, synthetic suede inserts, Mori Green trim, and quilted stitching. The interior of the all-new GT-R T-Spec is elevated and modern with unique badging and logos throughout the cabin.

The GT-R comes standard with the NissanConnect infotainment system, including the 8-inch multi-touch display, Apple CarPlay, Nissan navigation, Bluetooth, SiriusXM Radio, and more. You’ll be able to access customizable screens to display vehicle data of your choice, such as oil temperature, G-force, turbocharger boost, transmission gear selection, and more. Plus, you can make your ride your own with dual-zone automatic climate control, active noise cancellation, heated front seats, and the Bose® 11-speaker audio system so your music will sound better than ever.

The 2024 GT-R gives you comfort and style on the inside while you enjoy the performance and control on the outside.

Engineered for Performance:

The 2024 Nissan GT-R’s impressive 3.8-liter V6, twin-turbocharged, 24-valve engine is hand-assembled by takumi technicians. This powerful engine is rated at 565 horsepower with 467 lb-ft of torque.

The GT-R’s engine has a standard titanium exhaust system and is powered by a first-rate all-wheel-drive system which can vary its front-to-rear torque split depending on your driving needs. With this system, you’ll enjoy an outstanding feel and performance during your drive.

The weight distribution of your GT-R is optimized by its rear-mounted, 6-speed, dual clutch transaxle, providing powerful downshifting. Plus, you’ll have paddle shifters mounted right on your steering wheel to give you manual control on the road.

The GT-R is known for its dynamic handling, and you can count on a smooth ride with the GT-R’s independent double wishbone front and independent multi-link rear suspensions. As the driver, you’ll be able to choose between three drive modes for suspension: Normal, Comfort, and R. These different modes will help you personalize each drive to your needs, so you can enjoy the GT-R’s sport like handling no matter your comfort level.

With the GT-R’s speed and handling, having best-in-class braking is important. The GT-R Premium model is equipped with a Nissan and Brembo® braking system utilizing six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear calipers. The GT-R T-Spec model utilizes Brembo® brakes with the NISMO’s enlarged ceramic-carbon rotors.
