What to Look For When Buying a Used Car

Buying a used car can feel like going on a first date–you’re excited about the potential and on the surface, everything seems positive, but you’re still hesitant about the reality of entering into a long-term relationship.

Exploring your options for used cars in Orangeburg, SC, can be overwhelming. While you’ve set aside your non-negotiables and wants, how do you determine which used Nissan will be a match made in used car heaven and which will have you wishing you never ventured down this path in the first place?

Before you head down to one of the leading used car dealerships near Columbia, SC, our team will help you figure out what to look for when buying a used car and how a visit to Nissan of Orangeburg may be just what you’re looking for!

Learn the Right Questions to Ask

One of the most critical aspects of buying a used car is asking the right questions. By knowing what questions to ask, you’ll be able to determine if the used Nissan you have your eye on is worthy of a second look or if you’ll be saying, “It’s not me, it’s you.”

How Many Miles Does it Have?

A vehicle’s mileage is often one of the first things you look at when choosing a car. An average vehicle is driven between 10,000 and 15,000 miles per year. If the total mileage averages more than 20,000 per year or less than 5,000, try to determine the reason.

While lower mileage may sound like a positive, it could also mean that the car’s components may experience wear and degradation due to infrequent use. The idea is similar for high-mileage cars. If a car was used primarily for long highway commutes, it could have less wear and tear than a high-mileage car due to short trips. Discuss the vehicle's mileage and usage with the seller, and you’ll probably find the information you need to make an informed decision.

What Additional Features is the Vehicle Equipped With?

Asking this question will determine if the vehicle meets your non-negotiables and wants. Is Bluetooth connectivity a must-have feature, or does the full extent of safety equipment take precedence? Knowing which features your used Nissan has — and which it does not — will allow you to decide whether you want to move forward or call it quits.

What’s the Car’s Condition?

A car’s past can shed some much-needed light on its future reliability. Keeping this question broad can leave room open for information you wouldn’t have thought to ask, or determining if it’s worth your time to move forward.

For example, if a car were involved in a crash, the extent of the damage and repairs might be a dealbreaker. However, if you discover that the car underwent regular routine maintenance checks as indicated in the service records, it suggests that it was well-maintained and may have a longer lifespan than other used cars for sale in Orangeburg, SC.

Consider an Inspection–Both By You and a Trusted Mechanic

As one of the leading used car dealerships in Orangeburg, SC, we make sure that our used vehicle inventory is worth a second look. We always provide a vehicle history report, and our pre-owned inventory undergoes a hands-on inspection at our Nissan service center.

However, for your own peace of mind, it’s essential to know what to look for when you do your own quick inspection. Consider the following:

  • Check the body for imperfections, such as discolored paint or dents
  • Inspect the windows for chips and cracks
  • Open all the doors to ensure they are working well
  • Inspect under the hood for any signs of wear and degradation

While we aim to offer quality in our used vehicle inventory, consider a certified pre-owned Nissan in Orangeburg for added peace of mind. Our CPO vehicles undergo a rigorous inspection process and must meet specific requirements before they’re eligible for the CPO label, ensuring that you receive a high-quality ride at a fraction of the price of a new Nissan.

Take a Test Drive

While it can be easy to focus on the surface-level attributes of a used vehicle, nothing is more telling than a test drive.

When you take a test drive in a used Nissan, be aware of the following elements:

  • Odd sounds: Hearing unusual noises during the test drive is a red flag, as it could indicate a larger issue with the vehicle than a surface inspection suggested.
  • Water damage: Take a good look inside for any signs of water or flood damage. A musty smell or a leak in the frame or windows may indicate that the vehicle has had prior water damage.
  • A/C function: Even if it is cool outside, make sure the A/C is working properly.
  • Electronic function: Check the electrical components of your used vehicle. Do the windows roll down easily? Are the headlights and brake lights functioning like they should? Does Bluetooth function seamlessly?

Introducing the 2026 Nissan Armada NISMO: The First Super-SUV

Have you ever seen a seven-seater SUV with attitude and performance capabilities reminiscent of a supercar?

Maybe not yet…but you will soon.

This fall, the 2026 Nissan Armada NISMO, a full-size SUV with over 85 years of racing innovation built into its design and functionality, will hit the scene.

As the first super-SUV from Nissan, it’s set to usher in a new era for the everyday drive.

Are you ready? Keep reading to find out!

Performance that Demands Respect

The new 2026 Armada NISMO may be packed with the same twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine seen on other Armadas, but it doesn’t deliver the same results.

With a revised engine mapping and a freer-flowing exhaust system, the engine we’ve come to know now delivers an extra 35 ponies with every push of the accelerator.

That’s right–the Armada for 2026 now produces an impeccable 460 horsepower with 516 lb.-ft. of torque.

Paired with a retuned steering system and an adjustment to the air suspension, the NISMO is poised to deliver a more athletic driving experience behind the wheel.

A Muscular Makeover for the Super-SUV

Performance of this caliber can’t be housed within a typical SUV package, and while you can’t always judge a book by its cover, you can’t deny that the cover has to be enticing enough for us to pick it up in the first place.

Nissan gave the Armada NISMO a muscular makeover for its arrival on the automotive scene. A custom bumper, front fascia, and fender flares provide functionality and flair, helping to channel the airflow while simultaneously delivering the SUV’s “fighting” stance–wide, low, and aggressive.

Red accents add to the SUV's sporty exterior, seen on both sides of the grille, the rear diffuser, the sculpted side skirts, and the sideview mirrors–not to mention the brake calipers.

As the first super-SUV, exclusive color options are available, including:

  • NISMO Stealth Gray
  • NISMO Stealth Gray with Super Black roof
  • Black Diamond Pearl
  • Everest White Pearl Tricoat
  • Everest White Pearl Tricoat with Super Black roof

Seeing Red: A Look Inside the Armada NISMO

The Armada NISMO’s interior has us seeing red–in the best way.

The cabin is decked out in red accents that can’t be missed. The red Ultrasuede quilted insert on the charcoal leather seats promises next-level comfort, while the red racing stripe on the center console boasts of the luxury performance that awaits behind the wheel.

12-way power-adjustable front seats with four-way lumbar are standard features inside the NISMO’s cabin, along with some other standard additions that make this SUV not just functional, but luxurious:

  • Heated and power-adjustable steering wheel
  • Heated and massaging front seats
  • Klipsch 12-speaker sound system
  • Adjustable side bolsters
  • Dual panoramic sunroof
  • Motion-activated liftgate
  • 3-D surround-view camera

Experience a New Era of the SUV–Only at Nissan of Orangeburg!

The Nissan SUV is getting a fast-and-furious makeover, so the question remains: will you be ready when the new Nissan Armada for sale joins our dealership lineup?

The new 2026 Nissan Armada NISMO price is expected to start in the $70,000 range. Stay ahead of the pack on our blog, where we highlight the upcoming arrivals, latest features, and new updates from Nissan!

Can’t wait for the 2026 NISMO to hit the car lot? Explore our inventory of 2025 Nissan Armadas and other new Nissan crossovers and SUVs.

What is Car Engine Coolant, and Is it Really That Important to Your Nissan’s Maintenance?

When it comes to keeping your Nissan running smoothly, regular maintenance is key–and one of the most overlooked essentials is your car’s engine coolant.

Coolant plays a critical role in regulating your engine’s temperature, keeping it from overheating in the summer months and freezing during winter. But beyond temperature control, coolant helps protect engine components from corrosion and wear, saving you hundreds of dollars in repairs down the line.

What exactly is engine coolant, and how does it work? Let’s find out!

What is Engine Coolant and What Does it Do?

Engine coolant, also known as antifreeze, protects your engine from overheating and helps lubricate its internal parts to prevent unnecessary damage.

Coolant is made up of 50% water and 50% glycol—a chemical substance that, when combined with water, helps lower the freezing point of the antifreeze solution and raises its boiling point, allowing it to maintain equilibrium in all varying degrees of temperature.

What Does Engine Coolant Do?

The internal combustion engine in your vehicle works by burning fuel to generate energy. While part of the energy used allows us to get from the grocery store to the gym with ease, the remaining energy is converted into heat. While some of that heat escapes through your car’s exhaust, the rest is harnessed by the engine and its parts.

Coolant acts as a mediator between the engine and the stored heat, maintaining your engine's equilibrium without risk of overheating and engine failure.

As a bonus, coolant works in conjunction with the liquid cooling system in your vehicle to help prevent corrosion and wear on the moving parts that keep your engine running smoothly.

How Often Should You Visit a Nissan Service Center for a Coolant Flush?

Similar to an oil change, the timing and routine maintenance of your Nissan will depend on the vehicle itself.

Generally, engine coolant should be flushed and changed at least every 50,000 miles, but some newer models may require scheduling a Nissan service appointment every 10,000 miles.

Check your owner’s manual for manufacturer recommendations or speak with a certified technician at our Nissan service center to determine what works best for your model.

How to Check the Coolant Level in Your Nissan (And Add More)!

Has the "Check Coolant" light on your vehicle's dashboard flashed, leaving you worried about what's going on under the hood?

Here’s how to check your engine’s coolant and see how soon you need to visit our Nissan dealership in Orangeburg for a coolant flush or top-off!

  1. After driving, give your engine 30 minutes to cool off before opening the hood and attempting to check the coolant.
  2. After 30 minutes have passed, pop the hood and locate the translucent plastic tank near the radiator.
  3. Use a rag to unscrew the cap of the coolant tank halfway, then pause. Unscrewing it all the way immediately could cause it to bubble up to the surface and burn you.
  4. After a brief pause, you can continue unscrewing it until the lid is off.

The coolant will vary in color, ranging from bright green or pink to orange or yellow liquid. If the coolant is a murky, brown shade, it’s time to start searching our Nissan service specials and making room in your schedule for a coolant flush appointment.

In addition to the color, it’s important to make sure your coolant level falls between the “maximum” and “minimum” lines on the reservoir tank.

If the coolant is still vibrant in color, but has fallen slightly below the minimum mark, you’ll just need to top it off. If it is slightly below the mark, add a few milliliters of water to the mix. However, if you need to add more than a liter of water, add coolant instead until it reaches the “max” line.

If you feel uncomfortable changing the coolant yourself or have never done so before, schedule a visit to our service center at Nissan of Orangeburg today.

Keeping it Charged: Your Guide to EV Maintenance

More vehicle manufacturers are beginning to say goodbye to gas-powered rides and hello to electric motors. While many are still hesitant about the change, the switch to an EV often comes with a more manageable maintenance schedule, allowing you to keep more money in your pocket.

With no engine oil to change, transmission fluid to top off, or air filter to replace, what exactly goes into electric car maintenance?

Let’s find out!

NISSAN_ARIYA

Do Electric Vehicles Require More Maintenance?

Electric vehicles, or EVs, have developed a reputation for requiring less maintenance than their gasoline-fueled counterparts.

But the question is, is that reputation valid?

While EVs may cost more on the car lot, they require less maintenance overall, meaning more time on the road and more money in your wallet. In addition to the ease of charging your vehicle from home, EVs have eliminated more than two dozen mechanical components.

That’s right–you no longer have to schedule time for an oil change in Orangeburg, SC (or many other services, for that matter).

Goodbye Transmission, Hello Battery Pack

Saying goodbye to the engine means you no longer have to worry about several mechanical components that require routine maintenance. But that doesn’t mean that our service department will never have to pop the hood.

Oil changes and tune-ups have now been replaced with one major key to your car’s lifespan: the battery. When you drive an EV, preserving the life of your battery is the most important maintenance task.

Auto manufacturers recommend the following to get the most out of your battery:

  • Only charge your EV when needed
  • Maintain a 20 to 90 percent charge around town and save charging to 100% for longer adventures
  • Avoid frequently using DC Fast Charging stations

The battery pack inside your EV is designed to last anywhere from 10 to 15 years, essentially the lifespan of your vehicle. Keep in mind that when the time comes to replace the battery, it will be costly, so we recommend budgeting accordingly, especially as your vehicle ages.

Breaking Down Your Nissan Maintenance Schedule

Your EV maintenance schedule is similar to a gas-powered vehicle’s schedule: a tire pressure check, topping off the windshield wiper fluid, and scheduling a brake service in Orangeburg, SC.

While every EV is built differently, we’ve compiled a general maintenance schedule to help keep your Nissan EV on the road and out of our service center!

Every 30 Days

  • Check the tire pressure
  • Examine tires for excess wear or cracks
  • Check windshield washer fluid and top off if needed

Every 7,500 Miles

  • Rotate the tires
  • Check for fluid leaks
  • Conduct a brake inspection
  • Check battery coolant levels, power inverter, accessory power, and other battery components
  • Visually inspect the suspension system for signs of wear and tear

Every 15,000 Miles

  • Replace the windshield wiper blades

Every 36,000 Miles

  • Replace the cabin air filter
  • Replace the brake fluid

Every 75,000 Miles

  • Replace the suspension gas struts
  • Drain and service the coolant circuits

At or Before 100,000 Miles

  • Consider replacing the battery pack

Take Care of Your Nissan EV with Nissan of Orangeburg!

Making the switch from gas to electric can be a learning curve, but don’t worry! Our team at Nissan of Orangeburg is here to help!

Our service department is here to help you at every stage of EV ownership, from how electric vehicle maintenance works to maintaining a service schedule and everything in between!

Let’s Kick It Up a Notch: Why the 2025 Nissan Kicks Interior Wows

Budget-friendly rides are often looked at with hopeful skepticism.

Low price tags often come with a sacrifice, whether it be in the form of low-quality materials, outdated technology, or a design that leaves much to be desired.

But we are happy to say that’s not the case with the new Kicks! While these initial observations were once proven true, the new Nissan Kicks has us taking back our words, specifically when it comes to the cabin.

The all-new 2025 Nissan Kicks ups the ante in the compact crossover segment with unexpected levels of available technology, a street-smart design inspired by high-end sneakers, exceptional versatility and the increased confidence of Intelligent All-Wheel Drive.

Increased Cargo Space and Modern Styling? The Nissan Kicks for 2025 Is Not Messing Around

The new 2025 Nissan Kicks for sale is bigger, bolder, and ready to kick things up a notch!

Despite what a vehicle deemed as a “subcompact crossover” may suggest, the Kicks prides itself on its spacious interior design. Rear-seat passengers get a cozy new upgrade with Nissan’s Zero Gravity seats. Considered the best seats in the house–and the automotive industry, for that matter–these seats will ensure that your four lucky passengers will be comfortable for errands around town or weekend getaways.

And you’ll never sweat the amount of cargo space again, as the new Kicks has given you a bit more space to work with in the trunk. When you fold down the rear seats, you can maximize cargo space from 29 cubic feet to 59 cubic feet, allowing you to fit 21 carry-on suitcases with the seats folded.

Other notable interior upgrades on the 2025 Nissan Kicks include:

  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Remote engine start system with intelligent climate control
  • Automatic temperature control with soft-touch switches
  • 60/40 split rear seats

Technology That Takes Control

Modern technology with a focus on minimalism is the strategy behind the Kicks’ interior tech. Dual 12.3-inch fully customizable displays are found on the dashboard, giving you a seamless and intuitive viewing experience.

Depending on your chosen trim level, the Nissan Kicks will either feature a single USB-A port or a pair of USB-C ports, along with an additional pair of USB-C ports for rear passengers.

For those looking to escape the confines of the roadways, you’re in luck–the Nissan Kicks delivers an available 10-speaker Bose Personal Plus Audio System. This audio system is unlike any other, as it brings the power of music to every seat with Bose UltraNearfield speakers built into the driver’s and front passenger’s headrests for a unique listening experience.

Other technology features on the new Kicks include wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, and available SiriusXM satellite radio.

Affordability is the Nissan Kicks' Middle Name

No matter how much we fall in love with a vehicle, the deciding factor often comes down to one key detail: cost.

The Nissan Kicks' price point varies by trim level, but it maintains its affordable nature across the board:

  • 2025 Nissan Kicks S: Starting at $21,830
  • 2025 Nissan Kicks SV: Starting at $23,680
